Jesus bathes the disciples feet – Jesus and the disciples were in Jerusalem, a hot and dusty place, so it would have been common for guests to have their feet washed, often by servants before a meal (especially as they sat at low tables, so everyone’s feet were on show… eeuuwww).
The disciples would have been shocked when Jesus offered to do this for them himself – he was meant to be their king, not their servant. But Jesus was showing them he was a leader who came to serve, to love – and this was the kind of behaviour he wanted from his followers too.
