Compline and poetry
Meets in the Lady Chapel of St. John's for Compline (Book of Common Prayer) taken by one of those present and a hymn is sung a cappella. After the service those who wish move on to a suitable venue and read and discuss religious poems suitable to the church’s season. Particular favourites are George Herbert and RS Thomas but over the years we have read a wide variety of very interesting poetry much of it contemporary.
Members of the group are also encouraged to read poetry they have written themselves and this has lead to the recent publication of a book Transcendence by Andrew Rae (published by Austin Macauley 2024).
